CBOR YAML
100% private — files never leave your device

YAML makes structured data easy to hand-edit, which is perfect for config files and pipelines. If your files are still in CBOR format, this page is the shortcut: CBOR is binary JSON under an IETF standard (RFC 8949) — same data model, a fraction of the size, used by COSE, WebAuthn and IoT devices.

iLoveConverter processes everything locally on your computer, which makes it private and fast: no upload wait, no server storage, no limits. Add as many files as you like — batch conversion is built in.

How CBOR compares to YAML

CBOR YAML
Structure Binary tagged values Trees + anchors/refs
Types / schema Numbers, strings, arrays, maps Implicit (schema-linted in practice)
Compatibility WebAuthn, COSE, IoT DevOps standard
Best for Compact machine-to-machine data Config files and pipelines

How to convert CBOR to YAML

  1. 1

    Select your files

Drag & drop your CBOR files onto the area above, or click to browse. You can add multiple files at once for batch conversion.

  2. 2

    Convert instantly

Click "Convert to YAML". The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly — no upload, no queue, no waiting.

  3. 3

    Download results

Download each converted YAML file individually, or grab everything at once as a ZIP archive.

About the CBOR format

CBOR (RFC 8949) is what happens when JSON decides to stop wasting bytes: the same objects, arrays, strings and numbers, but length-prefixed binary instead of text. It is the credential format inside WebAuthn passkeys, the payload format of COSE signing and a favourite of embedded devices that cannot afford verbose JSON.

Decoding CBOR to JSON is the everyday debugging move: dump what a token, sensor or authenticator actually sent, then read it like ordinary JSON. The mapping is lossless for the data model both formats share.

+ Strengths

  • ✓IETF standard with a strict data model
  • ✓Much smaller than equivalent JSON
  • ✓Round-trips to JSON without data loss

! Limitations

  • −Not human-readable without a decoder
  • −Fewer tools speak it than JSON

About the YAML format

YAML is the configuration language of the DevOps decade: Kubernetes manifests, GitHub Actions, Docker Compose, Ansible. It is a strict superset of JSON 1.2 — every JSON file is valid YAML — but written with indentation instead of braces, and it adds the two things JSON refuses: comments and anchors (define once, reference everywhere).

Its flexibility is also its trap. Implicit typing famously turns the unquoted version number `1.0` into a float, Norway into boolean false (`no`), and deep indentation makes pasted YAML silently change meaning. Teams that enforce quotes-where-ambiguous and schema linting get the best of both worlds.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Human-friendly: indentation, minimal punctuation, comments
  • ✓Superset of JSON — interops for free
  • ✓Anchors reduce repetition in big configs

! Limitations

  • −Implicit typing surprises (`no`, `1.0`, `on`)
  • −Whitespace errors change meaning silently
  • −The full spec is notoriously complex

Why convert CBOR to YAML?

Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Not human-readable without a decoder YAML works differently: Human-friendly: indentation, minimal punctuation, comments If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is this CBOR to YAML converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.

Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?

Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.

Is there a file size limit for CBOR to YAML?

The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.

How large can my CBOR file be?

Since everything runs locally in your browser, the real limit is your device memory rather than an upload cap. Files up to a few hundred megabytes are usually fine on a modern computer; extremely large ones simply take longer.

Are formulas, styles or multiple sheets converted?

No — this conversion extracts the data itself into YAML. Formulas are exported as their current values, styling is not carried over, and multi-sheet workbooks convert sheet by sheet. For full fidelity between spreadsheet formats, exchange within the same tool family.
