DEB to WIM Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Debian Package and Windows Imaging Format exist for different jobs: DEB is the Debian/Ubuntu package format: an ar archive whose members are control metadata plus data.tar.* holding the actual payload. Extracting WIM to ZIP exposes the files inside Windows images without deployment tools.
This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.

About the DEB format
A .deb file is literally an ar archive (the Unix librarian format from 1971) containing three members: debian-binary, control.tar.* and data.tar.* — the last one holds every file the package installs. That transparency is why .deb extraction is the standard way to audit what a package will do to your system.
7-Zip parses the ar container and unpacks the inner tar automatically, so a browser can list and repackage the payload without ever touching a Linux shell.
+ Strengths
- ✓Transparent, auditable package structure
- ✓Standard across Debian, Ubuntu and derivatives
- ✓Inner tar is trivially repackaged
! Limitations
- −Meaningless outside dpkg-based systems
- −data.tar may use xz/zst compression variants
- −No cross-platform installer equivalent
About the WIM format
WIM (Windows Imaging Format) is how Microsoft ships Windows itself: the install media and deployment images are WIM files, holding a complete filesystem snapshot with single-instancing (identical files stored once). It is Windows' answer to tar — file-based rather than sector-based.
Opening one without deployment tooling (DISM, 7-Zip on Windows) is awkward. Extracting WIM to ZIP exposes the files inside — drivers, scripts, provisioned apps — on any system, no Windows required.
+ Strengths
- ✓Windows' native image format
- ✓Single-instancing deduplicates identical files
! Limitations
- −Opaque without Microsoft tooling
- −Files inside may be Windows-locked
Why convert DEB to WIM?
Converting makes sense where the strengths of WIM meet what DEB cannot give you. Windows' native image format Meanwhile Meaningless outside dpkg-based systems One pass through the converter above puts your file on the right side of that trade-off.
Frequently asked questions
Is this DEB to WIM converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for DEB to WIM?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Are the files inside my DEB archive modified?
No. Contents are unpacked in memory and repacked into WIM byte-for-byte — the conversion changes the container, never the files inside it.
What about folders and directory structure?
The full directory tree is preserved: folders stay folders, and deep paths arrive exactly as they were packed in the DEB file.
