DV to VOC Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Digital Video and Creative Sound Blaster VOC exist for different jobs: DV is the tape-era MiniDV camcorder format — standard-definition interlaced footage from the 1990s and 2000s. Convert VOC retro-game audio to WAV or MP3.
Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.

About the DV format
DV is the format of the MiniDV tape era: fixed 25 Mbps (or 50 Mbps for DVCPRO) intra-frame compression, interlaced standard definition, and timecode — designed so camcorders could write frames to tape as fast as they arrived. FireWire transfers produced raw .dv files that edit suites cut natively.
Digitising old tapes produces DV files that modern software increasingly cannot open. Converting to MP4 (deinterlacing is handled by the re-encode) keeps decades of family footage playable — at a fraction of the 13 GB/hour the original consumes.
+ Strengths
- ✓Frame-accurate, timecoded archive of the tape era
- ✓High bitrate for standard definition
! Limitations
- −Enormous files (~13 GB/hour)
- −Interlaced; needs modern re-encoding anyway
About the VOC format
VOC is the Creative Sound Blaster format — if a DOS game made a sound between 1989 and 1994, it was probably a VOC: 8-bit samples at exotic sample rates, with loop points, silence blocks and hardware-specific appendices that made each card sing differently.
ffmpeg decodes the standard sample blocks and converts VOC to WAV or MP3 — the cheapest time machine for retro-game audio.
+ Strengths
- ✓The DOS gaming era's audio format
- ✓Unique features: loops, silence, transfer blocks
- ✓Simple to decode
! Limitations
- −8-bit/11kHz era fidelity
- −Creative hardware extensions lost on convert
- −Rarely produced after 1995
Why convert DV to VOC?
Converting makes sense where the strengths of VOC meet what DV cannot give you. The DOS gaming era's audio format Meanwhile Enormous files (~13 GB/hour) One pass through the converter above puts your file on the right side of that trade-off.
Frequently asked questions
Is this DV to VOC converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for DV to VOC?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Why is video conversion slower than image conversion?
Every frame has to be decoded and re-encoded. This site runs that work on your own CPU via WebAssembly — nothing is uploaded, but a multi-minute video reasonably takes a few minutes. Images, by comparison, are single-frame jobs.
Will the audio track be kept?
Yes. The audio is carried over and re-encoded to the standard audio codec of VOC, staying in sync with the video. If your DV file has multiple audio tracks, the first one is used.
