glTF PNG8
100% private — files never leave your device

glTF (JSON form) is the human-readable sibling of GLB: the same scene, meshes and PBR materials, but stored as JSON with separate binary and texture files. Convert PNG8 files like any PNG — to JPG, WebP or full-color formats.

Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.

How to convert glTF to PNG8

  1. 1

    Select your files

    Select your glTF 3D model.

  2. 2

    Convert instantly

The engine loads the model and renders an offscreen snapshot with lighting and a fitted camera.

  3. 3

    Download results

Download the PNG8 snapshot — a preview without opening any 3D software.

About the glTF format

glTF in its JSON form (.gltf) is the readable side of the glTF 2.0 family: scene graph, meshes, materials, cameras and animations described in JSON, with binary geometry in a separate .bin buffer and textures as their own image files. Seeing the structure as text is genuinely useful when you are debugging an asset pipeline or hand-editing a material.

The trade-off is portability: a .gltf is only self-contained when its buffers are embedded as data URIs, which bloats the file. Everywhere you just want to ship or drop a model into a viewer, GLB is the better answer — and that is exactly what the gltf-to-glb page does for you, in your browser, without uploading the model.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Human-readable JSON structure
  • ✓Same PBR materials and scene data as GLB
  • ✓Easy to diff, debug and hand-edit

! Limitations

  • −Usually needs separate .bin and texture files
  • −Breaks when files are moved apart
  • −Larger than GLB once buffers are embedded

About the PNG8 format

PNG was created in 1996 as a free, open replacement for the patent-encumbered GIF, and it has been the reference lossless image format ever since. Pixels are compressed with the DEFLATE algorithm (the same one inside ZIP files), which reproduces the original image exactly — bit-for-bit — while supporting full 8-bit or 16-bit alpha transparency. Screenshots, logos, icons, charts and anything with text or sharp edges should live in PNG.

Because it never discards information, PNG files of photographs are several times larger than JPG — that is the price of perfection. Modern PNG encoders add filters per scanline that make screenshots and flat-color graphics compress surprisingly well. PNG also became the base of APNG, the animation extension that browsers play natively.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Truly lossless — every pixel survives exactly as it was
  • ✓Full alpha transparency with smooth edges, not 1-bit masks
  • ✓Open standard, unpatented, with excellent tooling everywhere
  • ✓Ideal for text, line art and flat-color graphics — sharp edges stay sharp

! Limitations

  • −Photographs become several times larger than JPG
  • −Base format has no animation (that is the APNG extension)
  • −16-bit or high-resolution PNGs can grow very heavy

Why convert glTF to PNG8?

Converting makes sense where the strengths of PNG8 meet what glTF cannot give you. Truly lossless — every pixel survives exactly as it was Meanwhile Usually needs separate .bin and texture files One pass through the converter above puts your file on the right side of that trade-off.

Frequently asked questions

Is this glTF to PNG8 converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.

Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?

Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.

Will my model look the same as a GLB?

Geometry, hierarchy and standard materials convert faithfully. Note that Draco-compressed GLB files and exotic extensions are not supported — export those as plain GLB from your original tool first.

How large can the glTF file be?

Everything runs on your device, so memory is the only ceiling. Dense meshes with millions of triangles convert fine on a desktop computer, just over a slightly longer coffee break.

Does the scale or orientation of the model change?

Vertex data is converted as-is. Formats without a unit system (like STL) are interpreted as millimeters by most 3D-printing tools — scale before converting if your model uses different units.
