HTK to AC3 Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Hidden Markov Toolkit and Dolby Digital Audio exist for different jobs: HTK is the sample format of the Cambridge Hidden Markov Model Toolkit — big-endian speech features and audio used throughout older speech research. Converting AC3 to MP3 or WAV makes DVD audio tracks usable anywhere.
Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.

About the AC3 format
AC3 (Dolby Digital) is the surround format of the DVD era and still the standard audio track on Blu-rays and broadcast TV. It carries 5.1 channels at 384–640 kbps — built to make home theatre rumble. Extracted from discs or remuxed downloads, .ac3 files are common on everyone's drive.
Phones and most editors do not decode it. The practical move is conversion: MP3 for listening, WAV when the audio is destined for editing. Both keep the mix you know — just in a format every device handles.
+ Strengths
- ✓True 5.1 surround from disc sources
- ✓The DVD/Blu-ray audio standard
! Limitations
- −Almost no mobile or web support
- −Lossy — downmixing loses the surround image
Why convert HTK to AC3?
Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Legacy niche format AC3 works differently: True 5.1 surround from disc sources If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this HTK to AC3 converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for HTK to AC3?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Can I convert a whole folder of HTK files?
You can select many files at once and they are processed in a single batch. Output files land in one ZIP download when there is more than one result.
Will converting HTK to AC3 reduce audio quality?
If AC3 is lossless, the output contains everything the HTK file contains — no further loss is added. If AC3 is lossy, one recompression pass is unavoidable; the quality slider controls how much. Loss that already happened in the source file can never be undone by converting.
