100% private — files never leave your device

M1V is a raw MPEG-1 video elementary stream — VCD-era video without a container. Convert AIF exactly as you would AIFF: to WAV for Windows tools, or to MP3/FLAC for sharing.

Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.

About the M1V format

M1V is a bare MPEG-1 video elementary stream — the video of Video-CDs without any container. MPEG-1's 352x288 VCD resolution looks prehistoric now, but the decoder is built into literally everything, which is why the format refuses to die.

Elementary streams confuse modern players (no timestamps container), so the fix is wrapping into MP4 — the video decodes through ffmpeg and gains proper seeking.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Plays on literally any hardware
  • ✓Simple to decode — zero surprises
  • ✓Common on old CD rips

! Limitations

  • −VCD-grade resolution only
  • −No timestamps without a container
  • −No audio track inside M1V

About the AIF format

AIFF is Apple's counterpart to WAV: uncompressed PCM in an IFF container, born with the classic Mac in 1988. It stores the same bit-perfect audio as WAV but carries metadata far better — iTunes-era tags, cover art and loop points all fit natively, which made it the default of Logic Pro and Mac-based audio production.

Functionally the WAV-versus-AIFF choice is platform history: same quality, same sizes, AIFF friendlier on Mac, WAV friendlier everywhere else. Converting between them is a lossless retagging exercise, nothing more.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Bit-perfect uncompressed audio
  • ✓Better metadata support than WAV
  • ✓Native to macOS and Logic Pro

! Limitations

  • −Same bulk as WAV (~10 MB/minute)
  • −Windows tooling historically prefers WAV

Why convert M1V to AIF?

Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. VCD-grade resolution only AIF works differently: Bit-perfect uncompressed audio If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is this M1V to AIF converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.

Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?

Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.

Is there a file size limit for M1V to AIF?

The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.

Does converting M1V to AIF re-encode my video?

Yes. The video is decoded and re-encoded with the settings chosen by the quality slider, which is what allows the format and size to change. For an archival copy, keep higher quality; for sharing, lower quality gives a much smaller file.

Will the audio track be kept?

Yes. The audio is carried over and re-encoded to the standard audio codec of AIF, staying in sync with the video. If your M1V file has multiple audio tracks, the first one is used.
