M2TS to AAC Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
M2TS is the Blu-ray and AVCHD camcorder transport stream — high-quality footage that most phones, social apps and editors refuse to open directly. AAC is the sweet spot when you want modern compression in an open, non-Apple container.
Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.
How M2TS compares to AAC
| M2TS | AAC | |

| Quality | Broadcast/Blu-ray grade | Best-in-class at low bitrates |
| Compatibility | Full players only | Streaming/broadcast standard |

About the M2TS format
M2TS is the transport stream of Blu-ray discs and AVCHD camcorders: MPEG-2 or H.264 video in fixed 188-byte packets, built for broadcast-style resilience rather than compactness. Copy a camcorder's clips off its card and you are holding M2TS files; so is most of a decrypted Blu-ray folder structure.
The format plays in VLC and a handful of editors, but phones, social platforms and web apps reject it. Converting to MP4 is the standard hand-off: the video re-encodes to H.264 at your chosen quality and the result plays literally everywhere.
+ Strengths
- ✓Broadcast-grade error resilience
- ✓Native to Blu-ray and AVCHD cameras
- ✓Carries high-bitrate, high-quality footage
! Limitations
- −Rejected by phones, web players and social platforms
- −Packet overhead inflates file size
About the AAC format
AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) is MP3's official successor, standardized in MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 and refined over two decades. It is the audio track of YouTube, iPhone voice memos, digital radio and HE-AAC streaming — arguably the most-played codec in history. Files appear either raw (.aac, ADTS stream) or inside M4A/MP4 containers.
Its claim to fame is low-bitrate performance: HE-AAC v1/v2 keep speech and music listenable at 24–64 kbps, where MP3 collapses. Raw .aac streams carry weaker tagging than the M4A container, which is why music libraries prefer M4A even when the codec is identical.
+ Strengths
- ✓The standard of streaming, mobile and broadcast
- ✓Excellent low-bitrate behavior (HE-AAC)
- ✓Better than MP3 at equal bitrate
! Limitations
- −Raw .aac files tag poorly
- −Flavor fragmentation (LC/HE/xHE) confuses tooling
Why convert M2TS to AAC?
Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Rejected by phones, web players and social platforms AAC works differently: The standard of streaming, mobile and broadcast If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this M2TS to AAC converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for M2TS to AAC?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Will the audio track be kept?
Yes. The audio is carried over and re-encoded to the standard audio codec of AAC, staying in sync with the video. If your M2TS file has multiple audio tracks, the first one is used.
Does converting M2TS to AAC re-encode my video?
Yes. The video is decoded and re-encoded with the settings chosen by the quality slider, which is what allows the format and size to change. For an archival copy, keep higher quality; for sharing, lower quality gives a much smaller file.
