MOBI to EPUB 2 Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Kindle eBook and EPUB 2 Ebook exist for different jobs: MOBI is Amazon Kindle’s legacy e-book format (also AZW/AZW3). It predates EPUB adoption and still circulates in older book collections. Convert EPUB 2 files like EPUB — the reader handles both editions.
This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.

About the MOBI format
MOBI is the Mobipocket format Amazon adopted for the original Kindle (2007), later extended as KF8/AZW3. It reflows text like EPUB but with a fraction of the formatting capability — basic styles, images, bookmarks — and its metadata model is decades old. Amazon stopped accepting MOBI uploads for reflowable ebooks in 2022 in favor of EPUB.
Its remaining role is old hardware: early Kindle models and some e-readers that never learned EPUB. Note that DRM-protected Kindle books (AZW/KFX with encryption) are a separate, legally distinct matter from converting MOBI files you created or that are DRM-free.
+ Strengths
- ✓Supported by legacy Kindle hardware
- ✓Compact and self-contained
! Limitations
- −Deprecated by Amazon since 2022
- −Weak formatting compared to EPUB3
- −Modern Kindle models prefer EPUB/AZW3
About the EPUB 2 format
EPUB is the open standard of e-books (IDPF, now W3C): a ZIP package of XHTML chapters, CSS styling and metadata, rendered reflowably on any screen size. Text re-wraps to your phone, your e-reader and your monitor; font size, margins and typography belong to the reader, not the publisher. EPUB3 adds fixed-layout support, media overlays (read-aloud) and rich semantics.
It is the universal format of every ebook platform except Kindle (Amazon accepts EPUB uploads since 2022 but converts internally). DRM is optional — many EPUBs are open, library books use Adobe ADE encryption. For text-centric books it is the right long-term choice; heavily designed print layouts survive conversion imperfectly.
+ Strengths
- ✓Reflows to any screen — the point of e-books
- ✓Open standard, future-proof, tool-rich
- ✓Accepted by every store and reader app
! Limitations
- −Kindle devices still need conversion to Kindle formats
- −Complex print layouts translate imperfectly
- −DRM variants need specific readers
Why convert MOBI to EPUB 2?
Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Deprecated by Amazon since 2022 EPUB 2 works differently: Reflows to any screen — the point of e-books If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this MOBI to EPUB 2 converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for MOBI to EPUB 2?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Will chapters and the table of contents survive?
Chapter structure and internal links are carried over wherever EPUB 2 has a place for them. The converter follows the book's own structure rather than flattening it into one stream.
Is it legal to convert my MOBI ebook?
Converting ebooks you legitimately own for personal use is generally fine. Removing DRM protection is a separate legal question that varies by country — this tool does not and will not break copy protection.
