MXF PCM
100% private — files never leave your device

MXF is the broadcast-industry media container — XDCAM, P2 cameras and TV stations hand off program material as MXF with embedded metadata. Convert any audio to raw PCM for DSP pipelines, or wrap a PCM dump into WAV/MP3 to make it playable.

Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.

How to convert MXF to PCM

  2. 2

    Convert instantly

The engine demuxes the container and encodes the audio track into your chosen format.

Download the PCM audio — the video track is simply dropped.

About the MXF format

MXF (Material Exchange Format) is the container broadcast television standardized on: XDCAM and P2 cameras record it, newsrooms hand off program material in it, and playout servers ingest it. Beyond the video and audio tracks it carries structured metadata — timecode, program markers, rights information — that plain MP4 cannot express.

For editing and review the container is the problem, not the content: converting MXF to MP4 or MKV keeps the H.264 video and PCM audio intact while making the file openable in any editor and shareable in chat. Broadcast cameras also interlace, so check the output for field order.

+Strengths

  • ✓Broadcast-grade metadata and timecode
  • ✓Industry standard for program exchange
  • ✓ffmpeg decodes XDCAM/IMX/D-10 variants

!Limitations

  • −OP1a vs OP1b patterns differ by vendor
  • −Metadata is dropped on conversion
  • −Files are heavy (broadcast bitrates)

About the PCM format

Raw PCM is audio at its most naked: 16-bit little-endian samples, no header, no metadata, no sample-rate label — just the waveform bytes. It is the lowest common denominator every DSP pipeline, telephony stack and embedded system speaks, which is why exports and lab tools keep asking for it.

Because the file carries no sample-rate information, consumers must agree on the rate out of band (8000 Hz telephony and 48000 Hz video are the common conventions). Wrapping PCM into WAV adds the missing header and makes the bytes playable anywhere.

+Strengths

  • ✓Zero overhead — pure sample data
  • ✓Universally understood by DSP tools
  • ✓Bit-exact lossless representation

!Limitations

  • −No header: sample rate must be known out of band
  • −Unplayable directly in most apps

Why convert MXF to PCM?

There is a concrete reason this conversion exists: OP1a vs OP1b patterns differ by vendor PCM sidesteps that — Zero overhead — pure sample data If that is your situation, the tool above settles it in seconds, entirely on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is this MXF to PCM converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.

Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?

Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.

Is there a file size limit for MXF to PCM?

The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.

Will the audio track be kept?

Yes. The audio is carried over and re-encoded to the standard audio codec of PCM, staying in sync with the video. If your MXF file has multiple audio tracks, the first one is used.

Does converting MXF to PCM re-encode my video?

Yes. The video is decoded and re-encoded with the settings chosen by the quality slider, which is what allows the format and size to change. For an archival copy, keep higher quality; for sharing, lower quality gives a much smaller file.
