PDF/A to BZ2 Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Convert BZ2 to ZIP or TAR when modern tools need a friendlier container. If your files are still in PDF/A format, this page is the shortcut: PDF/A is the ISO-standardized archival dialect of PDF: everything needed to render the document — fonts, color profiles, no external dependencies — must be embedded, and encryption or dynamic content is forbidden. The point is that the file renders identically in decades.
iLoveConverter processes everything locally on your computer, which makes it private and fast: no upload wait, no server storage, no limits. Add as many files as you like — batch conversion is built in.

About the PDF/A format
PDF/A is what happens when archives get to rewrite the rules. Regular PDF allows external fonts, unembedded color profiles, JavaScript, video and encryption — conveniences that quietly rot: open the file on another machine in twenty years and the layout may not survive. PDF/A (ISO 19005) bans everything that needs an outside dependency or a runtime: fonts must be embedded, color must be tagged with an OutputIntent, encryption and executable content are forbidden. The result is a PDF that is a complete, self-contained time capsule.
There are conformance levels (b = basic, a = accessible) and generations (PDF/A-1, -2, -3). PDF/A-2b is the pragmatic sweet spot: it allows modern compression and transparency while keeping validation strict, and it is the level most universities, courts and tender portals actually ask for. Conversion runs Ghostscript's pdfwrite through a PDF/A OutputIntent with an embedded sRGB profile, then validates that nothing violates the profile.
+Strengths
- ✓Self-contained: fonts and colors embedded, renders identically forever
- ✓Accepted by archives, courts, universities and tender portals
- ✓ISO-standardized — not a vendor-specific dialect
!Limitations
- −Forms, JavaScript and encryption are stripped
- −File size usually grows (embedded fonts + profiles)
- −Visually identical output — you get compliance, not a new look
About the BZ2 format
BZ2 applies the Burrows–Wheeler transform: slower than gzip but noticeably smaller, which is why Wikipedia database dumps and old source tarballs still arrive as .bz2.
Few GUI tools ship a bz2 reader these days, so converting the contents into a ZIP or TAR is the practical way to hand the payload to someone else.
+Strengths
- ✓Better ratio than gzip
- ✓Common in dumps and archives
- ✓Mature, stable format
!Limitations
- −Slow to compress and decompress
- −Declining tool support

Frequently asked questions
Is this PDF/A to BZ2 converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for PDF/A to BZ2?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
What about folders and directory structure?
The full directory tree is preserved: folders stay folders, and deep paths arrive exactly as they were packed in the PDF/A file.
Are the files inside my PDF/A archive modified?
No. Contents are unpacked in memory and repacked into BZ2 byte-for-byte — the conversion changes the container, never the files inside it.
