POTX to MD Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
PowerPoint Template (OOXML) and Markdown Document exist for different jobs: POTX is a PowerPoint template in the modern OOXML zip — master slides, theme colors and placeholders. Markdown is the fastest way to write formatted text that stays readable as-is and converts cleanly to HTML.
Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.

About the POTX format
PPTX is the modern PowerPoint deck: a zip of XML parts describing slides, shapes, text runs and media. That structure is exactly why text can be extracted faithfully without PowerPoint — every word on every slide is in the package, with its slide number.
One honest limit: extraction is about words, not looks. Slide layouts, backgrounds, animations and images do not survive a text export — the output is the content of the deck, not a picture of it.
+ Strengths
- ✓Text and slide order preserved exactly
- ✓Opens in PowerPoint, Keynote, WPS, Slides
- ✓Zip+XML structure is machine-friendly
! Limitations
- −Text export loses layout and visuals
- −Charts and tables flatten to text
About the MD format
Markdown (John Gruber, 2004) is plain text that renders into rich documents: `#` headings, `*` emphasis, lists, links, code fences. You can write it in any editor, read it as-is, diff it in git, and twenty years later it still opens — which is why GitHub, Stack Overflow, Notion, Obsidian and every static-site generator settled on it for prose.
Its one honest weakness is dialect fragmentation: tables, footnotes and task lists all started as extensions (GFM, MultiMarkdown, Pandoc), so a sophisticated document can render differently across tools. Core Markdown — headings, lists, links, code — is bulletproof everywhere.
+ Strengths
- ✓Future-proof plain text, renders anywhere
- ✓Perfect for version control and documentation
- ✓Low-friction: readable even unrendered
! Limitations
- −Extension dialects fragment advanced features
- −Complex layout and precise design are out of scope

Frequently asked questions
Is this POTX to MD converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for POTX to MD?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Can I convert a password-protected deck?
No — protected decks are encrypted in the package. Remove the protection in the original application first.
Does the conversion include images and backgrounds?
No. This is a text extraction: words on slides survive, layouts, backgrounds, animations and pictures do not. Keep the original deck for the visuals.
