PS to JPE Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
PS is full PostScript — the page-description language that defined desktop publishing. Whole books were typeset as PS programs; Ghostscript remains the reference renderer. Older cameras and Windows tools sometimes save photos as .jpe; convert them to modern formats or hand the extension whatever a form demands.
iLoveConverter processes everything locally on your computer, which makes it private and fast: no upload wait, no server storage, no limits. Add as many files as you like — batch conversion is built in.

About the PS format
PS is PostScript proper — the Turing-complete page-description language that Adobe shipped in 1984 and that desktop publishing was built on. A .ps file is a program: it draws its own pages with operators like moveto and showpage. Whole theses and books have been typeset as PS via troff and LaTeX pipelines.
Ghostscript is the reference implementation, and it runs here in your browser: PS documents convert to PDF for long-term archiving, or rasterize to PNG/JPG for the web — the same engine print RIPs license for commercial presses.
+ Strengths
- ✓Turing-complete layout control
- ✓The original device-independent print format
- ✓Reference renderer runs in-browser here
! Limitations
- −Program, not data — treat with care
- −Superseded by PDF for interchange
- −Rendering is compute-heavy for big jobs
About the JPE format
JPG (short for JPEG, the Joint Photographic Experts Group committee that standardized it in 1992) has been the default photo format for over three decades. It compresses photographs using the discrete cosine transform: the image is split into 8×8 blocks, and details the human eye is bad at noticing are discarded. The result is files many times smaller than uncompressed data, at a quality level you control when saving.
In practice JPG is unbeatable for photographs and smooth gradients — camera memory cards, messaging apps and the web all assume it. It is a poor fit for screenshots, logos or anything with sharp edges and flat color, where compression leaves visible ringing around text. There is no transparency support, color depth is capped at 8 bits per channel, and every re-save with compression compounds tiny generational losses.
+ Strengths
- ✓Opens on literally every device, app and browser made in the last 30 years
- ✓Compresses photos dramatically — typically 10:1 or better with little visible loss
- ✓Quality level is adjustable, so you can trade fidelity for file size
- ✓Mature ecosystem: EXIF metadata, ICC profiles and progressive loading all supported
! Limitations
- −Lossy — artifacts appear on text, sharp edges and flat areas
- −No transparency, so overlays and logos need PNG or WebP instead
- −Repeated re-saving at low quality permanently degrades the image
Why convert PS to JPE?
Converting makes sense where the strengths of JPE meet what PS cannot give you. Opens on literally every device, app and browser made in the last 30 years Meanwhile Program, not data — treat with care One pass through the converter above puts your file on the right side of that trade-off.
Frequently asked questions
Is this PS to JPE converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Will converting PS to JPE reduce quality?
JPE uses lossy compression, so a small amount of recompression is unavoidable. The quality slider lets you choose between maximum fidelity and smallest file size — the default is visually indistinguishable for photos.
Is the scale of the drawing preserved?
Coordinates are preserved exactly. The output fits the drawing extents into the page or canvas, so measurements on screen are relative — the underlying coordinates stay true.
Can I convert DWG files here?
No. DWG is a binary format without a reliable browser-side parser. Save the drawing as DXF in your CAD software first — every CAD system can export it.
