SQL to BZ2 Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
SQL Dump Script and BZip2 Compressed File exist for different jobs: A .sql dump is a plain-text script of CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements — the readable, diff-able, version-controllable representation of a database. Every engine speaks some dialect of it. Convert BZ2 to ZIP or TAR when modern tools need a friendlier container.
This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.

About the SQL format
A .sql dump is a database expressed as plain text: CREATE TABLE statements, then one INSERT per row. It is how databases travel between engines, how backups get reviewed in pull requests, and how a schema change is documented forever in version control.
Because it is just text, a dump is readable by humans and executable by machines: feed it to any SQLite engine and the database materializes byte-for-byte. That round trip — file → script → file — is the cleanest way to inspect, hand-edit or migrate a small database.
+Strengths
- ✓Human-readable and machine-executable
- ✓Diffs cleanly in version control
- ✓Dialect-portable with minor edits
!Limitations
- −Large tables make enormous scripts
- −Binary objects need special (base64/hex) encoding
- −Dialect differences can break cross-engine imports
About the BZ2 format
BZ2 applies the Burrows–Wheeler transform: slower than gzip but noticeably smaller, which is why Wikipedia database dumps and old source tarballs still arrive as .bz2.
Few GUI tools ship a bz2 reader these days, so converting the contents into a ZIP or TAR is the practical way to hand the payload to someone else.
+Strengths
- ✓Better ratio than gzip
- ✓Common in dumps and archives
- ✓Mature, stable format
!Limitations
- −Slow to compress and decompress
- −Declining tool support
Why convert SQL to BZ2?
Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Large tables make enormous scripts BZ2 works differently: Better ratio than gzip If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this SQL to BZ2 converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for SQL to BZ2?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
What about folders and directory structure?
The full directory tree is preserved: folders stay folders, and deep paths arrive exactly as they were packed in the SQL file.
Is there a size limit for archive conversion?
There is no upload cap because nothing is uploaded — the practical limit is your device memory. A few hundred megabytes of unpacked content works comfortably on a modern computer.
