TSV to ODS Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Convert ODS to XLSX or CSV when the file has to move into Excel, a data pipeline or a tool that never learned OpenDocument. If your files are still in TSV format, this page is the shortcut: TSV (Tab-Separated Values) is CSV’s cousin that uses tab characters as separators — common in bioinformatics, data-warehouse exports and Excel clipboard data.
This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.
How TSV compares to ODS
| TSV | ODS | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | One flat table | Multiple sheets |
| Types / schema | Untyped | Typed cells + formulas |
| Compatibility | Spreadsheets paste natively | LibreOffice, Excel, Sheets |
| Best for | Quick spreadsheet exchange | Open-standard documents |

About the TSV format
TSV is CSV's tab-separated sibling: rows as lines, columns split by tabs, everything plain text. Its quiet superpower is the clipboard — copy a range in Excel or Sheets, paste into a text editor, and you are looking at TSV; paste it back and the grid restores. That round-trip makes it the Lingua franca of ad-hoc spreadsheet work.
The tab delimiter avoids CSV's comma-in-text quoting dance, at the price of being broken by any value that itself contains a tab — there is no standard quoting. Like CSV it is untyped, single-table, and happiest as a quick exchange or import format.
+ Strengths
- ✓Round-trips through the clipboard with spreadsheets
- ✓No quoting rules to worry about
- ✓Columns align visually in monospace editors
! Limitations
- −A tab inside any value corrupts the file
- −Untyped and single-table like CSV
- −Some tools assume CSV only
About the ODS format
ODS is the spreadsheet half of the OpenDocument standard (ISO/IEC 26300) — a zip package of XML, just like XLSX, but defined by an open standard instead of a vendor. It is what LibreOffice Calc and Apache OpenOffice write by default, and it is the format many public-sector and education IT departments mandate because no single company controls it.
In practice ODS holds the same things XLSX does — sheets, typed cells, formulas, charts — and modern Excel opens it fine. The friction is elsewhere: macros do not survive, some conditional formatting and pivot tables are translated imperfectly, and plenty of data tools simply never implemented the reader. Converting to XLSX or CSV removes that friction.
+ Strengths
- ✓Open ISO standard, no vendor lock-in
- ✓Full spreadsheet features: formulas, charts, sheets
- ✓Read and written by every major office suite
! Limitations
- −Weak support in data pipelines and BI tools
- −Macros and some formatting do not survive conversion
- −Less common than XLSX in business hand-offs
Why convert TSV to ODS?
There is a concrete reason this conversion exists: A tab inside any value corrupts the file ODS sidesteps that — Open ISO standard, no vendor lock-in If that is your situation, the tool above settles it in seconds, entirely on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this TSV to ODS converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
What about special characters and non-English text?
Everything is handled as UTF-8. When you export CSV for Excel, a UTF-8 BOM is included automatically so Chinese, Japanese, Korean and accented characters display correctly on both Windows and macOS.
Is my data safe here?
Yes. The conversion is plain JavaScript running in your tab: the data is parsed and re-serialized in memory, never sent anywhere, and disappears when you close the page.
How large can my TSV file be?
Since everything runs locally in your browser, the real limit is your device memory rather than an upload cap. Files up to a few hundred megabytes are usually fine on a modern computer; extremely large ones simply take longer.
