TSV to Parquet Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Tab-Separated Values and Apache Parquet exist for different jobs: TSV (Tab-Separated Values) is CSV’s cousin that uses tab characters as separators — common in bioinformatics, data-warehouse exports and Excel clipboard data. Convert Parquet to CSV or JSON to peek at a data-lake export in a spreadsheet, or turn a cleaned-up XLSX back into Parquet for the pipeline.
Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.
How TSV compares to Parquet
| TSV | Parquet | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | One flat table | Row groups × columns |
| Types / schema | Untyped | Typed, per-column compressed |
| Compatibility | Spreadsheets paste natively | Spark, Pandas, DuckDB, BigQuery |
| Best for | Quick spreadsheet exchange | Analytics, data pipelines, lakes |

About the TSV format
TSV is CSV's tab-separated sibling: rows as lines, columns split by tabs, everything plain text. Its quiet superpower is the clipboard — copy a range in Excel or Sheets, paste into a text editor, and you are looking at TSV; paste it back and the grid restores. That round-trip makes it the Lingua franca of ad-hoc spreadsheet work.
The tab delimiter avoids CSV's comma-in-text quoting dance, at the price of being broken by any value that itself contains a tab — there is no standard quoting. Like CSV it is untyped, single-table, and happiest as a quick exchange or import format.
+ Strengths
- ✓Round-trips through the clipboard with spreadsheets
- ✓No quoting rules to worry about
- ✓Columns align visually in monospace editors
! Limitations
- −A tab inside any value corrupts the file
- −Untyped and single-table like CSV
- −Some tools assume CSV only
About the Parquet format
Parquet is the columnar file format that the data-engineering world standardized on: instead of storing one row after another, values are grouped by column, compressed as a block, and annotated with exact types. That layout is why a Parquet export is often 5–10× smaller than the same table as CSV, and why Spark, Pandas, DuckDB, BigQuery, Snowflake and every modern data lake read it natively.
The catch is that Parquet is binary and column-oriented — you cannot open it in a text editor or most spreadsheet apps. A converter is the bridge: flatten a Parquet file into CSV or JSON to inspect it, hand XLSX/TSV/CSV to it when a cleaned-up table needs to travel back into the pipeline. Types survive both directions, so numbers stay numbers.
+ Strengths
- ✓5–10× smaller than CSV via per-column compression
- ✓Exact column types — no silent string coercion
- ✓The lingua franca of Spark / Pandas / DuckDB / data lakes
! Limitations
- −Binary — unreadable without a dedicated tool
- −Overkill for small hand-edited tables
- −Nested schemas can confuse simple converters
Why convert TSV to Parquet?
Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. A tab inside any value corrupts the file Parquet works differently: 5–10× smaller than CSV via per-column compression If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this TSV to Parquet converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
What about special characters and non-English text?
Everything is handled as UTF-8. When you export CSV for Excel, a UTF-8 BOM is included automatically so Chinese, Japanese, Korean and accented characters display correctly on both Windows and macOS.
Are formulas, styles or multiple sheets converted?
No — this conversion extracts the data itself into Parquet. Formulas are exported as their current values, styling is not carried over, and multi-sheet workbooks convert sheet by sheet. For full fidelity between spreadsheet formats, exchange within the same tool family.
How large can my TSV file be?
Since everything runs locally in your browser, the real limit is your device memory rather than an upload cap. Files up to a few hundred megabytes are usually fine on a modern computer; extremely large ones simply take longer.
