WOFF OTF
100% private — files never leave your device

OTF keeps designer-grade outlines and advanced glyph features, which makes it the standard deliverable from type foundries. If your files are still in WOFF format, this page is the shortcut: WOFF is the older web font format (version 1) — larger than WOFF2 but still required by some legacy browser support matrices and old @font-face stacks.

This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.

About the WOFF format

WOFF (Web Open Font Format, 2010) wrapped TTF/OTF data in a web-first container: zlib compression (~40% smaller), strict table structure, and optional license metadata that foundries required before allowing web embedding. It powered the first generation of real web typography under @font-face.

Its successor WOFF2 compresses better with Brotli and has since become the only format modern sites ship. WOFF remains useful for one reason: legacy browsers (IE9–IE11 era) that never learned WOFF2.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Compressed and web-legal by design
  • ✓Works back to IE9-era browsers

! Limitations

  • −Superseded by WOFF2 everywhere current
  • −Larger than WOFF2 for identical glyphs

About the OTF format

OTF (OpenType with CFF outlines, Adobe & Microsoft, 1996) upgraded the font file: cubic Bézier curves (matching PostScript/Illustrator geometry), support for tens of thousands of glyphs, and OpenType features — ligatures, small caps, tabular figures, multi-script layout. Professional type foundries ship OTF for desktop use.

Like TTF, it is a desktop format: uncompressed and web-inefficient. The standard pipeline converts OTF to WOFF2 for the web; on the desktop itself, OTF is simply how pro typography is distributed.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Advanced typography features (ligatures, styles)
  • ✓Cubic curves match vector-design workflows
  • ✓Huge glyph coverage, multi-script

! Limitations

  • −Uncompressed for web use
  • −Hinting tradition weaker than TTF

Frequently asked questions

Is this WOFF to OTF converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.

Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?

Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.

Is there a file size limit for WOFF to OTF?

The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.

Do I still need the license for the converted font?

Yes. Converting a format does not change its license — the same foundry terms apply wherever the font is used, including the web.

Can I install the OTF file on my computer?

That depends on the target: desktop systems install TTF/OTF files directly, while OTF is a web container meant to be served with @font-face rather than installed. Keep the original for desktop use.
