XLSB to TSV Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
XLSB is Excel's binary workbook format: identical content model to XLSX, packed in a binary container that opens and calculates faster on huge sheets. Many research datasets and database dumps ship as TSV; converting to CSV or JSON makes them broadly usable.
Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.
How XLSB compares to TSV
| XLSB | TSV | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | Binary OOXML container (.bin parts) | One flat table |
| Types / schema | Same cell model as XLSX | Untyped |
| Compatibility | Excel 2007+, SheetJS | Spreadsheets paste natively |
| Best for | Very large calculation-heavy workbooks | Quick spreadsheet exchange |

About the XLSB format
XLSB is Excel's binary workbook format: the same content model as XLSX but packed in a binary container instead of XML. It opens and calculates noticeably faster on huge sheets and produces smaller files — the tradeoff is that almost nothing outside Excel can read it, and macro-bearing workbooks cannot use it at all.
Because the cell data is identical to XLSX, converting XLSB to CSV, JSON or XLSX loses nothing: SheetJS parses the binary parts natively in your browser, and the output is an ordinary spreadsheet that every tool accepts. If you only need the values, CSV is the shortest path.
+ Strengths
- ✓Faster open/calc and smaller files on huge sheets
- ✓Full fidelity to XLSX content model
- ✓Reads natively in-browser (SheetJS) — no upload
! Limitations
- −Opaque binary — no diffing or git-friendliness
- −Cannot hold VBA macros
- −Few third-party readers outside Excel/SheetJS
About the TSV format
TSV is CSV's tab-separated sibling: rows as lines, columns split by tabs, everything plain text. Its quiet superpower is the clipboard — copy a range in Excel or Sheets, paste into a text editor, and you are looking at TSV; paste it back and the grid restores. That round-trip makes it the Lingua franca of ad-hoc spreadsheet work.
The tab delimiter avoids CSV's comma-in-text quoting dance, at the price of being broken by any value that itself contains a tab — there is no standard quoting. Like CSV it is untyped, single-table, and happiest as a quick exchange or import format.
+ Strengths
- ✓Round-trips through the clipboard with spreadsheets
- ✓No quoting rules to worry about
- ✓Columns align visually in monospace editors
! Limitations
- −A tab inside any value corrupts the file
- −Untyped and single-table like CSV
- −Some tools assume CSV only
Why convert XLSB to TSV?
Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Opaque binary — no diffing or git-friendliness TSV works differently: Round-trips through the clipboard with spreadsheets If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this XLSB to TSV converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
What about special characters and non-English text?
Everything is handled as UTF-8. When you export CSV for Excel, a UTF-8 BOM is included automatically so Chinese, Japanese, Korean and accented characters display correctly on both Windows and macOS.
How large can my XLSB file be?
Since everything runs locally in your browser, the real limit is your device memory rather than an upload cap. Files up to a few hundred megabytes are usually fine on a modern computer; extremely large ones simply take longer.
Is my data safe here?
Yes. The conversion is plain JavaScript running in your tab: the data is parsed and re-serialized in memory, never sent anywhere, and disappears when you close the page.
