XLSX to DOCX Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Convert to DOCX when the text needs to be edited further in Word or Google Docs — it keeps paragraphs and headings as real, editable content. If your files are still in XLSX format, this page is the shortcut: XLSX is the modern Microsoft Excel workbook format. It stores multiple sheets with values, styles and charts, and opens in Excel, WPS Office, Numbers and Google Sheets.
iLoveConverter processes everything locally on your computer, which makes it private and fast: no upload wait, no server storage, no limits. Add as many files as you like — batch conversion is built in.

About the XLSX format
XLSX is the modern Excel workbook (default since Excel 2007, same OOXML zip-package idea as DOCX). One file can carry multiple sheets, typed cells, formulas that recalculate, charts, conditional formatting and pivot caches — a small application, not just a table. LibreOffice, Google Sheets and WPS open it natively, and server-side libraries can read and write it without Excel installed.
Being a spreadsheet program's file, it is a poor plain-data exchange format: formulas reference cell positions that break when rows are reordered, hidden sheets and cached values surprise consumers, and the zip package is heavier than CSV. For analysis and finance it is the right tool; for pipelines, export the CSV.
+ Strengths
- ✓Multi-sheet with formulas, charts and formatting
- ✓Typed cells and recalculation
- ✓Opens natively across the office ecosystem
! Limitations
- −Heavier and less diff-friendly than CSV
- −Formulas tie data to cell positions
- −Hidden state (sheets, caches) surprises downstream tools
About the DOCX format
DOCX is the modern Microsoft Word format (Office Open XML, default since Word 2007). A file is actually a ZIP package of XML parts — document body, styles, numbering, headers, embedded media — which is what lets Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, WPS and Pages all open it natively. Text flows around styles rather than absolute positions, so a document adapts to the page it is rendered on.
It is the format of collaboration: tracked changes, comments, styles and templates are first-class citizens, and office ecosystems assume it. The trade-off is layout drift — the same DOCX paginates slightly differently across renderers, and very complex layouts (exact positioning, text over images) can shift. For contracts in progress it is ideal; for the signed final, export a PDF.
+ Strengths
- ✓Fully editable with styles, track changes and comments
- ✓Opens natively in Word, Google Docs, WPS, LibreOffice
- ✓Flowing layout adapts to any page size
! Limitations
- −Pagination and layout shift between renderers
- −Complex layouts may not survive round-trips
- −Not suitable as a final, fixed distribution format
Why convert XLSX to DOCX?
Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Heavier and less diff-friendly than CSV DOCX works differently: Fully editable with styles, track changes and comments If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this XLSX to DOCX converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
What about special characters and non-English text?
Everything is handled as UTF-8. When you export CSV for Excel, a UTF-8 BOM is included automatically so Chinese, Japanese, Korean and accented characters display correctly on both Windows and macOS.
Can I edit the DOCX result afterwards?
That depends on the target: DOCX is designed for what it does, and this converter reproduces its content faithfully rather than inventing editable structure. For heavy re-editing, work from a format built for editing and export the final version here.
Will the layout of my XLSX file be preserved exactly?
This converter renders your XLSX content into DOCX with pages, proportions and images kept as close to the original as the target format allows. Use the preview before downloading to confirm it looks the way you expect.
