Xvid to AC3 Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Converting AC3 to MP3 or WAV makes DVD audio tracks usable anywhere. If your files are still in Xvid format, this page is the shortcut: Xvid is the open-source DivX competitor — the other MPEG-4 ASP encoder behind a decade of movie downloads.
This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.

About the Xvid format
Xvid is the open-source implementation of the same MPEG-4 ASP profile DivX commercialized — after the original was open-sourced following a legal scuffle, Xvid became the encoder of choice for a decade of scene releases and personal rips.
Identical migration path as DivX: decode through ffmpeg, re-encode to H.264. The video quality at its usual bitrates survives the trip better than DivX's worst files, thanks to Xvid's tunable quantization.
+ Strengths
- ✓Open-source and configurable
- ✓Enormous existing content corpus
- ✓Decodes via ffmpeg everywhere
! Limitations
- −Same ASP-era limitations as DivX
- −Packed bitstream quirks in some files
- −Development ended years ago
About the AC3 format
AC3 (Dolby Digital) is the surround format of the DVD era and still the standard audio track on Blu-rays and broadcast TV. It carries 5.1 channels at 384–640 kbps — built to make home theatre rumble. Extracted from discs or remuxed downloads, .ac3 files are common on everyone's drive.
Phones and most editors do not decode it. The practical move is conversion: MP3 for listening, WAV when the audio is destined for editing. Both keep the mix you know — just in a format every device handles.
+ Strengths
- ✓True 5.1 surround from disc sources
- ✓The DVD/Blu-ray audio standard
! Limitations
- −Almost no mobile or web support
- −Lossy — downmixing loses the surround image
Why convert Xvid to AC3?
Converting makes sense where the strengths of AC3 meet what Xvid cannot give you. True 5.1 surround from disc sources Meanwhile Same ASP-era limitations as DivX One pass through the converter above puts your file on the right side of that trade-off.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Xvid to AC3 converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for Xvid to AC3?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Why is video conversion slower than image conversion?
Every frame has to be decoded and re-encoded. This site runs that work on your own CPU via WebAssembly — nothing is uploaded, but a multi-minute video reasonably takes a few minutes. Images, by comparison, are single-frame jobs.
Will the audio track be kept?
Yes. The audio is carried over and re-encoded to the standard audio codec of AC3, staying in sync with the video. If your Xvid file has multiple audio tracks, the first one is used.
