Xvid F4V
100% private — files never leave your device

Xvid is the open-source DivX competitor — the other MPEG-4 ASP encoder behind a decade of movie downloads. F4V converts to MP4 with zero quality change — it is the same H.264 video in a different box.

iLoveConverter processes everything locally on your computer, which makes it private and fast: no upload wait, no server storage, no limits. Add as many files as you like — batch conversion is built in.

About the Xvid format

Xvid is the open-source implementation of the same MPEG-4 ASP profile DivX commercialized — after the original was open-sourced following a legal scuffle, Xvid became the encoder of choice for a decade of scene releases and personal rips.

Identical migration path as DivX: decode through ffmpeg, re-encode to H.264. The video quality at its usual bitrates survives the trip better than DivX's worst files, thanks to Xvid's tunable quantization.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Open-source and configurable
  • ✓Enormous existing content corpus
  • ✓Decodes via ffmpeg everywhere

! Limitations

  • −Same ASP-era limitations as DivX
  • −Packed bitstream quirks in some files
  • −Development ended years ago

About the F4V format

F4V is Adobe's later Flash Video container, introduced when Flash Player gained H.264 support around 2007. Internally it is an ISO-base-media file — the same family as MP4 — so an F4V is essentially an MP4 with a different extension and Flash-era metadata.

Conversion to MP4 is a container change, not a re-encode: the H.264 video and AAC audio pass through intact. That makes F4V→MP4 one of the cleanest conversions in the whole format zoo — quality is byte-identical.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Modern H.264/AAC inside
  • ✓Converts to MP4 without quality loss

! Limitations

  • −Dead ecosystem (Flash ended in 2020)
  • −Some players dislike the extension

Why convert Xvid to F4V?

Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Same ASP-era limitations as DivX F4V works differently: Modern H.264/AAC inside If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Xvid to F4V converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.

Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?

Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.

Is there a file size limit for Xvid to F4V?

The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.

Will the audio track be kept?

Yes. The audio is carried over and re-encoded to the standard audio codec of F4V, staying in sync with the video. If your Xvid file has multiple audio tracks, the first one is used.

Why is video conversion slower than image conversion?

Every frame has to be decoded and re-encoded. This site runs that work on your own CPU via WebAssembly — nothing is uploaded, but a multi-minute video reasonably takes a few minutes. Images, by comparison, are single-frame jobs.
