DOCM EPUB
100% private — files never leave your device

EPUB readers follow you everywhere, but the content is locked in the container — extracting it as text, HTML or a simple PDF unlocks copy, search and printing. If your files are still in DOCM format, this page is the shortcut: DOCM is DOCX with a macro flag: the same OOXML zip, allowed to carry VBA projects. Macro-free documents are byte-for-byte the usual Word format.

This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.

About the DOCM format

DOCX is the modern Microsoft Word format (Office Open XML, default since Word 2007). A file is actually a ZIP package of XML parts — document body, styles, numbering, headers, embedded media — which is what lets Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, WPS and Pages all open it natively. Text flows around styles rather than absolute positions, so a document adapts to the page it is rendered on.

It is the format of collaboration: tracked changes, comments, styles and templates are first-class citizens, and office ecosystems assume it. The trade-off is layout drift — the same DOCX paginates slightly differently across renderers, and very complex layouts (exact positioning, text over images) can shift. For contracts in progress it is ideal; for the signed final, export a PDF.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Fully editable with styles, track changes and comments
  • ✓Opens natively in Word, Google Docs, WPS, LibreOffice
  • ✓Flowing layout adapts to any page size

! Limitations

  • −Pagination and layout shift between renderers
  • −Complex layouts may not survive round-trips
  • −Not suitable as a final, fixed distribution format

About the EPUB format

EPUB is the open standard of e-books (IDPF, now W3C): a ZIP package of XHTML chapters, CSS styling and metadata, rendered reflowably on any screen size. Text re-wraps to your phone, your e-reader and your monitor; font size, margins and typography belong to the reader, not the publisher. EPUB3 adds fixed-layout support, media overlays (read-aloud) and rich semantics.

It is the universal format of every ebook platform except Kindle (Amazon accepts EPUB uploads since 2022 but converts internally). DRM is optional — many EPUBs are open, library books use Adobe ADE encryption. For text-centric books it is the right long-term choice; heavily designed print layouts survive conversion imperfectly.

+ Strengths

  • ✓Reflows to any screen — the point of e-books
  • ✓Open standard, future-proof, tool-rich
  • ✓Accepted by every store and reader app

! Limitations

  • −Kindle devices still need conversion to Kindle formats
  • −Complex print layouts translate imperfectly
  • −DRM variants need specific readers

Converting makes sense where the strengths of EPUB meet what DOCM cannot give you. Reflows to any screen — the point of e-books Meanwhile Pagination and layout shift between renderers One pass through the converter above puts your file on the right side of that trade-off.

Is this DOCM to EPUB converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
