FB2 to EPUB Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
EPUB readers follow you everywhere, but the content is locked in the container — extracting it as text, HTML or a simple PDF unlocks copy, search and printing. If your files are still in FB2 format, this page is the shortcut: FB2 (FictionBook 2) is the e-book format of the Russian-speaking world and many indie e-reader apps: a single XML file with strict semantic markup — sections, titles, epigraphs, poems. Readers like FBReader and older PocketBooks prefer it.
This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.

About the FB2 format
FB2 (FictionBook 2) stores a whole book as one strictly-structured XML file: <section> for chapters, <title>, <epigraph>, <poem>, even <table>. That semantic rigour — not just styled text — is why FBReader, AlReader and older PocketBook devices favour it, and why conversions out of FB2 preserve the chapter tree cleanly.
Its weakness is reach: mainstream ecosystems (Kindle, Kobo, Apple Books, Google Play Books) do not accept it. Converting to EPUB moves the book into every modern reader; TXT/HTML covers plain reading, note-taking and long-term archiving.
+ Strengths
- ✓Strict semantic markup — chapters, poems, epigraphs
- ✓Single XML file, easy to validate and archive
- ✓Native to FBReader and many indie e-readers
! Limitations
- −Rejected by mainstream e-book ecosystems
- −Verbose XML makes files larger than EPUB
- −Metadata and cover support vary across apps
About the EPUB format
EPUB is the open standard of e-books (IDPF, now W3C): a ZIP package of XHTML chapters, CSS styling and metadata, rendered reflowably on any screen size. Text re-wraps to your phone, your e-reader and your monitor; font size, margins and typography belong to the reader, not the publisher. EPUB3 adds fixed-layout support, media overlays (read-aloud) and rich semantics.
It is the universal format of every ebook platform except Kindle (Amazon accepts EPUB uploads since 2022 but converts internally). DRM is optional — many EPUBs are open, library books use Adobe ADE encryption. For text-centric books it is the right long-term choice; heavily designed print layouts survive conversion imperfectly.
+ Strengths
- ✓Reflows to any screen — the point of e-books
- ✓Open standard, future-proof, tool-rich
- ✓Accepted by every store and reader app
! Limitations
- −Kindle devices still need conversion to Kindle formats
- −Complex print layouts translate imperfectly
- −DRM variants need specific readers
Why convert FB2 to EPUB?
Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Rejected by mainstream e-book ecosystems EPUB works differently: Reflows to any screen — the point of e-books If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this FB2 to EPUB converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for FB2 to EPUB?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Is it legal to convert my FB2 ebook?
Converting ebooks you legitimately own for personal use is generally fine. Removing DRM protection is a separate legal question that varies by country — this tool does not and will not break copy protection.
What about images and covers?
Embedded images and the cover are extracted and re-embedded in the output where the format supports them. Heavily designed layouts may simplify, but the pictures themselves come through.
