RTF to DOCM Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Convert DOCM exactly like DOCX — text, tables and images extract the same way. If your files are still in RTF format, this page is the shortcut: RTF (Rich Text Format) is Microsoft's 1987 legacy rich-text format: plain ASCII with backslash escapes, understood by literally every word processor ever shipped — WordPad, Word, Pages, LibreOffice, even mainframe-era editors.
This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.

About the RTF format
RTF is Microsoft's 1987 rich-text format, and it refuses to die for a good reason: the file is plain ASCII with readable backslash commands, so any program ever written can open it. WordPad, Word, TextEdit, LibreOffice, ancient mainframe editors — RTF is the lowest common denominator of formatted text.
It carries bold, italics, fonts, colors, tables and images, but its layout fidelity is modest by design — think "formatted text", not "typeset page". That makes RTF the right target when the recipient's toolchain is unknown, ancient or locked down: it opens everywhere and keeps the formatting that matters.
+ Strengths
- ✓Opens in literally every word processor
- ✓Plain-text based — never corrupted by email or old systems
- ✓Keeps bold/italic/tables/images without a full office suite
! Limitations
- −No templates, macros or document automation
- −Layout fidelity far below DOCX/PDF
- −Verbose encoding makes files larger than DOCX
About the DOCM format
DOCX is the modern Microsoft Word format (Office Open XML, default since Word 2007). A file is actually a ZIP package of XML parts — document body, styles, numbering, headers, embedded media — which is what lets Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, WPS and Pages all open it natively. Text flows around styles rather than absolute positions, so a document adapts to the page it is rendered on.
It is the format of collaboration: tracked changes, comments, styles and templates are first-class citizens, and office ecosystems assume it. The trade-off is layout drift — the same DOCX paginates slightly differently across renderers, and very complex layouts (exact positioning, text over images) can shift. For contracts in progress it is ideal; for the signed final, export a PDF.
+ Strengths
- ✓Fully editable with styles, track changes and comments
- ✓Opens natively in Word, Google Docs, WPS, LibreOffice
- ✓Flowing layout adapts to any page size
! Limitations
- −Pagination and layout shift between renderers
- −Complex layouts may not survive round-trips
- −Not suitable as a final, fixed distribution format

Frequently asked questions
Is this RTF to DOCM converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for RTF to DOCM?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Can I edit the DOCM result afterwards?
That depends on the target: DOCM is designed for what it does, and this converter reproduces its content faithfully rather than inventing editable structure. For heavy re-editing, work from a format built for editing and export the final version here.
Does the conversion work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion itself runs entirely inside your browser — you can even disconnect and keep converting. No file ever touches a server.
