SRT to SSA Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Convert SSA subtitles exactly like ASS — to SRT, VTT or plain text. If your files are still in SRT format, this page is the shortcut: SRT is the most common subtitle format: numbered caption blocks with start–end timestamps, supported by nearly every video player and editing tool.
iLoveConverter processes everything locally on your computer, which makes it private and fast: no upload wait, no server storage, no limits. Add as many files as you like — batch conversion is built in.

About the SRT format
SRT (SubRip) is the most widely supported subtitle format in existence: numbered cues, a `HH:MM:SS,mmm --> HH:MM:SS,mmm` timecode line, then the text, with a blank line between cues. It is plain text, so it diffs cleanly, edits in any editor, and is accepted by virtually every video player, editor and YouTube.
It is deliberately minimal: no styling beyond basic HTML-ish tags (italic, bold), no positioning control, no metadata. Millisecond precision in the timecodes is its only structural luxury. When you need richer typography or web embedding, WebVTT is the modern upgrade path.
+ Strengths
- ✓Universal player and platform support
- ✓Plain text: easy to edit, translate and diff
- ✓Simple enough to fix by hand
! Limitations
- −No real styling or positioning
- −No metadata or language tagging
- −Not web-native (browsers want VTT)
About the SSA format
ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha) is the subtitle format of the fansubbing world, descended from SSA. Where SRT holds plain text, ASS holds a full styling script: fonts, sizes, colors, outlines, exact positioning, rotation, fade-in effects and even karaoke timing — everything a subtitle needs to look designed rather than typed.
That power is also its portability problem: players that don't implement the renderer show ASS subtitles stripped to bare text, or not at all. Converting ASS to SRT keeps every line and timestamp while deliberately discarding the styling — the right trade for devices that only speak plain subtitles.
+ Strengths
- ✓Full styling: fonts, colors, positioning, effects
- ✓The fansub standard — huge library of styled subs
- ✓Karaoke and advanced timing effects
! Limitations
- −Rendering support varies wildly across players
- −Conversion to plain formats discards styling
- −Verbose text format

Frequently asked questions
Is this SRT to SSA converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for SRT to SSA?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Is my data safe here?
Yes. The conversion is plain JavaScript running in your tab: the data is parsed and re-serialized in memory, never sent anywhere, and disappears when you close the page.
How large can my SRT file be?
Since everything runs locally in your browser, the real limit is your device memory rather than an upload cap. Files up to a few hundred megabytes are usually fine on a modern computer; extremely large ones simply take longer.
