LaTeX to DOCX Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
LaTeX Source and Word Document exist for different jobs: LaTeX is the typesetting system of academia: papers, theses, books and preprints (arXiv requires it). A .tex file is plain-text source — the converted output is a compile-ready document with proper math, cross-references and bibliography structure. Convert to DOCX when the text needs to be edited further in Word or Google Docs — it keeps paragraphs and headings as real, editable content.
Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.

About the LaTeX format
LaTeX is how academia writes: preprints, theses, journal submissions and most of arXiv and Springer's back-catalogue are LaTeX sources. A .tex file is plain text with markup commands — \\section{…}, $math$, \\cite{…} — that a compiler turns into perfectly typeset PDF with numbered equations, cross-references and bibliographies.
Converting into LaTeX is the boring 80% of the academic workflow: your Markdown notes, Word draft or EPUB becomes a .tex skeleton with proper sectioning and math, ready to paste into the journal's template. The output here is source, not a compiled PDF — the final typesetting happens in the journal's or arXiv's own compiler.
+ Strengths
- ✓The required format for arXiv and most journals
- ✓Math, cross-references and citations as first-class citizens
- ✓Plain text — version-controllable and diff-able
! Limitations
- −Not directly viewable — needs a LaTeX compiler
- −Steep learning curve for manual editing
- −Complex layouts may need template tweaks
About the DOCX format
DOCX is the modern Microsoft Word format (Office Open XML, default since Word 2007). A file is actually a ZIP package of XML parts — document body, styles, numbering, headers, embedded media — which is what lets Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, WPS and Pages all open it natively. Text flows around styles rather than absolute positions, so a document adapts to the page it is rendered on.
It is the format of collaboration: tracked changes, comments, styles and templates are first-class citizens, and office ecosystems assume it. The trade-off is layout drift — the same DOCX paginates slightly differently across renderers, and very complex layouts (exact positioning, text over images) can shift. For contracts in progress it is ideal; for the signed final, export a PDF.
+ Strengths
- ✓Fully editable with styles, track changes and comments
- ✓Opens natively in Word, Google Docs, WPS, LibreOffice
- ✓Flowing layout adapts to any page size
! Limitations
- −Pagination and layout shift between renderers
- −Complex layouts may not survive round-trips
- −Not suitable as a final, fixed distribution format
Why convert LaTeX to DOCX?
Converting makes sense where the strengths of DOCX meet what LaTeX cannot give you. Fully editable with styles, track changes and comments Meanwhile Not directly viewable — needs a LaTeX compiler One pass through the converter above puts your file on the right side of that trade-off.
Frequently asked questions
Is this LaTeX to DOCX converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Is there a file size limit for LaTeX to DOCX?
The only limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded. Files up to a few hundred megabytes work fine on a modern desktop browser; very large files simply take a little longer.
Will the layout of my LaTeX file be preserved exactly?
This converter renders your LaTeX content into DOCX with pages, proportions and images kept as close to the original as the target format allows. Use the preview before downloading to confirm it looks the way you expect.
Does the conversion work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, the conversion itself runs entirely inside your browser — you can even disconnect and keep converting. No file ever touches a server.
