TSV to YML Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Convert .yml files exactly like .yaml — to JSON, TOML or CSV. If your files are still in TSV format, this page is the shortcut: TSV (Tab-Separated Values) is CSV’s cousin that uses tab characters as separators — common in bioinformatics, data-warehouse exports and Excel clipboard data.
This converter runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your files never leave your device, nothing is uploaded, and there are no watermarks, sign-ups or queues. Drop in several files at once to convert them as a batch.
How TSV compares to YML
| TSV | YML | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | One flat table | Trees + anchors/refs |
| Types / schema | Untyped | Implicit (schema-linted in practice) |
| Compatibility | Spreadsheets paste natively | DevOps standard |
| Best for | Quick spreadsheet exchange | Config files and pipelines |

About the TSV format
TSV is CSV's tab-separated sibling: rows as lines, columns split by tabs, everything plain text. Its quiet superpower is the clipboard — copy a range in Excel or Sheets, paste into a text editor, and you are looking at TSV; paste it back and the grid restores. That round-trip makes it the Lingua franca of ad-hoc spreadsheet work.
The tab delimiter avoids CSV's comma-in-text quoting dance, at the price of being broken by any value that itself contains a tab — there is no standard quoting. Like CSV it is untyped, single-table, and happiest as a quick exchange or import format.
+Strengths
- ✓Round-trips through the clipboard with spreadsheets
- ✓No quoting rules to worry about
- ✓Columns align visually in monospace editors
!Limitations
- −A tab inside any value corrupts the file
- −Untyped and single-table like CSV
- −Some tools assume CSV only
About the YML format
YAML is the configuration language of the DevOps decade: Kubernetes manifests, GitHub Actions, Docker Compose, Ansible. It is a strict superset of JSON 1.2 — every JSON file is valid YAML — but written with indentation instead of braces, and it adds the two things JSON refuses: comments and anchors (define once, reference everywhere).
Its flexibility is also its trap. Implicit typing famously turns the unquoted version number `1.0` into a float, Norway into boolean false (`no`), and deep indentation makes pasted YAML silently change meaning. Teams that enforce quotes-where-ambiguous and schema linting get the best of both worlds.
+Strengths
- ✓Human-friendly: indentation, minimal punctuation, comments
- ✓Superset of JSON — interops for free
- ✓Anchors reduce repetition in big configs
!Limitations
- −Implicit typing surprises (`no`, `1.0`, `on`)
- −Whitespace errors change meaning silently
- −The full spec is notoriously complex
Why convert TSV to YML?
There is a concrete reason this conversion exists: A tab inside any value corrupts the file YML sidesteps that — Human-friendly: indentation, minimal punctuation, comments If that is your situation, the tool above settles it in seconds, entirely on your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this TSV to YML converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
What about special characters and non-English text?
Everything is handled as UTF-8. When you export CSV for Excel, a UTF-8 BOM is included automatically so Chinese, Japanese, Korean and accented characters display correctly on both Windows and macOS.
How large can my TSV file be?
Since everything runs locally in your browser, the real limit is your device memory rather than an upload cap. Files up to a few hundred megabytes are usually fine on a modern computer; extremely large ones simply take longer.
Are formulas, styles or multiple sheets converted?
No — this conversion extracts the data itself into YML. Formulas are exported as their current values, styling is not carried over, and multi-sheet workbooks convert sheet by sheet. For full fidelity between spreadsheet formats, exchange within the same tool family.
