100% private — files never leave your device

WebP Image and ZIP Archive exist for different jobs: WebP is a modern image format from Google. It typically produces files 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar visual quality, supports transparency like PNG, and can even hold animations. ZIP is the safest archive to share — no special software needed on the receiving end.

Because the whole conversion happens on your device, it is instant, unlimited and genuinely private — no accounts, no watermarks, no files on anyone's server. Multiple files are converted in one go.

About the WebP format

WebP is Google's image format, released in 2010 and built on the VP8 video codec. In lossy mode it typically produces files 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, and it also has a true lossless mode that beats PNG. Crucially, one format covers what used to require two: lossy photos with transparency, and even animation, all in a single container.

Browser support is no longer the barrier it once was: Safari added WebP in iOS 14 (2020), and every modern browser now decodes it. The remaining friction is with older desktop software and a hard dimension limit of 16383×16383 pixels, which rules out very large panoramas and print masters.

+Strengths

  • ✓25–35% smaller than JPG at equal visual quality
  • ✓Transparency and animation built into the same format
  • ✓Supported by every current browser and most CDNs
  • ✓Has a genuine lossless mode that out-compresses PNG

!Limitations

  • −Hard limit of 16383×16383 pixels per image
  • −Older photo apps and OS image viewers may not open it
  • −Encoding is more CPU-intensive than JPG

About the ZIP format

ZIP (PKWARE, 1989) is the archive format the world agreed on: per-file Deflate compression (or plain store), a central directory that lets tools list and extract single files without touching the rest, and thirty-five years of universal support. Windows, macOS, Linux, phones and browsers all open ZIP natively.

Its compression ratio is middle-of-the-road next to 7z, and its encryption story is genuinely mixed: the classic ZipCrypto is broken, while AES-256 works only in tools that opted in. For maximum compatibility of everyday sharing, though, ZIP remains the only safe answer.

+Strengths

  • ✓Opens natively on every platform
  • ✓Random access: extract one file, skip the rest
  • ✓Thirty-five years of tooling maturity

!Limitations

  • −Weaker compression than 7Z/RAR
  • −Classic encryption (ZipCrypto) is broken
  • −No built-in recovery records

Why convert WebP to ZIP?

Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. Hard limit of 16383×16383 pixels per image ZIP works differently: Opens natively on every platform If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Is this WebP to ZIP converter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.

Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?

Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.

Will I lose quality converting WebP to ZIP?

No — ZIP is a lossless format, so every pixel of the converted image matches your original WebP file. You can also adjust the quality/size balance before converting when the target format supports compression.

What happens to EXIF data and other metadata?

Conversions here re-encode the image, and re-encoding generally does not carry the original metadata over. If the EXIF data of your WebP files matters (camera model, GPS, timestamps), keep the original file as the master and treat the converted copy as the shareable version.

Will transparent areas survive the conversion to ZIP?

Transparency is kept whenever ZIP actually supports an alpha channel. If the target format has none (like JPG), transparent areas are flattened onto a white background — that is a property of the format, not of this tool.
