BVH to glTF Converter
Processing entirely on your device — large files may take a moment.
Convert .gltf to GLB when you need one portable file, or to OBJ/STL for tools and 3D printers that expect those. If your files are still in BVH format, this page is the shortcut: BVH is the motion-capture skeleton format: a text hierarchy of joints with rotation channels and per-frame keyframes. It carries no mesh — only the skeleton and its animation.
iLoveConverter processes everything locally on your computer, which makes it private and fast: no upload wait, no server storage, no limits. Add as many files as you like — batch conversion is built in.
How BVH compares to glTF
| BVH | glTF | |
|---|---|---|
| Structure | HIERARCHY + MOTION text blocks | JSON scene + external buffer |
| Compatibility | Blender, Mixamo, three.js BVHLoader | All glTF loaders |
| Best for | Motion capture exchange | Editing and debugging assets |

About the BVH format
BVH (Biovision Hierarchy) is motion capture in plain text: a joint hierarchy with rotation channels, followed by a MOTION block of per-frame values. It carries no mesh — which is exactly why it converts cleanly into glTF skeletons and animations.
The converted glTF carries the bone hierarchy and the animation clip, so a mocap take drops straight into three.js, Unity or Blender and can be retargeted onto any character.
+ Strengths
- ✓Human-readable mocap standard
- ✓Clean glTF skeleton mapping
- ✓Decades of free mocap libraries
! Limitations
- −No mesh — needs retargeting to a body
- −Euler rotation gimbal quirks
- −Scale conventions vary per studio
About the glTF format
glTF in its JSON form (.gltf) is the readable side of the glTF 2.0 family: scene graph, meshes, materials, cameras and animations described in JSON, with binary geometry in a separate .bin buffer and textures as their own image files. Seeing the structure as text is genuinely useful when you are debugging an asset pipeline or hand-editing a material.
The trade-off is portability: a .gltf is only self-contained when its buffers are embedded as data URIs, which bloats the file. Everywhere you just want to ship or drop a model into a viewer, GLB is the better answer — and that is exactly what the gltf-to-glb page does for you, in your browser, without uploading the model.
+ Strengths
- ✓Human-readable JSON structure
- ✓Same PBR materials and scene data as GLB
- ✓Easy to diff, debug and hand-edit
! Limitations
- −Usually needs separate .bin and texture files
- −Breaks when files are moved apart
- −Larger than GLB once buffers are embedded
Why convert BVH to glTF?
Think of it as moving your file to the container that fits the job. No mesh — needs retargeting to a body glTF works differently: Human-readable JSON structure If any of that sounds like your task, run the conversion — it takes seconds and nothing leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this BVH to glTF converter really free?
Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily conversion limits. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly, so your files never leave your device — that is what makes it instant and private.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android?
Yes. Anything with a modern browser works: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. No software installation is required.
Will my model look the same as a GLB?
Geometry, hierarchy and standard materials convert faithfully. Note that Draco-compressed GLB files and exotic extensions are not supported — export those as plain GLB from your original tool first.
Does the scale or orientation of the model change?
Vertex data is converted as-is. Formats without a unit system (like STL) are interpreted as millimeters by most 3D-printing tools — scale before converting if your model uses different units.
How large can the BVH file be?
Everything runs on your device, so memory is the only ceiling. Dense meshes with millions of triangles convert fine on a desktop computer, just over a slightly longer coffee break.
